Goodbye rain! Hot weather to return and could stay until September

The July heatwave was followed by a wet and windy August but forecasters have predicted more warm and sunny weather for Britain before the end of the school summer holidays.

The Met Office has said temperatures will rise from Monday and could reach 31C in the South by the end of the week, in time for the last Bank Holiday weekend of the summer.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Met Office forecaster Chris Bulmer said: "We're going to see plenty of dry, bright sunshine."

The North is also expected to see fine weather.

"In the South East temperatures will climb to the low twenties, and in northerly parts of the country to the high teens, before gradual increase in temperatures throughout the week."

Mr Bulmer added: "It's not going to be as hot as it was, but things are looking up on currently and there will be quite a change.

"It does look like there is going to be a good deal of fine and dry weather over the next couple of weeks - especially for the South."

Meanwhile, the Express reports that the hot weather could even continue into September.

Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services, told the newspaper: "This is likely to last at least into the Bank Holiday next weekend but there are signs it could extend right up until the start of September."
