A Ryanair flight to Majorca was delayed when a passenger punched a flight attendant as the plane was about to take off.

Police were called to the flight at Liverpool John Lennon Airport at about 7pm on Sunday after cabin crew asked them to help remove a group of unruly passengers, the Liverpool Echo reports.

According to the Birmingham Mail, as the passengers were leaving the plane, one woman struck an air stewardess.

The 24-year-old was arrested for common assault and received a caution.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police told the BBC the stewardess was "badly shaken, but uninjured."

One witness told the Liverpool Echo there was fighting among the "holiday revellers" on the flight before the stewardess was punched during the safety demonstration.

"Not the best start to a flight full of families with innocent children witnessing this disgusting display," she said.

At the start of August, holidaymakers on a flight from Prestwick to Ibiza endured a journey from hell when 30 yobs ran riot on the plane.

The men reportedly swore, threatened and even sexually harassed crew in front of families with young children.
