Female holidaymaker dies swimming with family off Scottish beach
The holidaymaker was swimming with her husband and three sons at Borve beach, off the coast of Harris, on Monday evening when the incident occurred.
Stornoway Coastguard attended the scene, and the unconscious woman was airlifted to the Western Isles Hospital, where she later died.
According to the Herald Scotland and the BBC, a Police Scotland spokesman said: "At approximately 8.05pm police received a report from HM Coastguard in relation to a maritime incident at Borve beach on the Isle of Harris.
"A woman was flown to the Western Isles Hospital where she sadly died."
The woman's husband and two of the boys were taken to hospital by ambulance, and were later released.
On 2 August, a man died after trying to rescue two swimmers who got into difficulty off a beach in Anglesey.
Police believe the man entered the sea at Broad Beach, Rhosneigr after seeing a man and a teenager in need of help.
Also at the beginning of August, a British woman drowned while swimming in the sea on holiday in the Dominican Republic.
Sian Louise Marshall-Plewes, 36, drowned while swimming near Sosua Beach at 4am on the northern coast of the Caribbean island.
