Work on world's second tallest building completed in China
Work on the main structure of the second tallest building in the world was completed on Saturday.
A crane placed the final beam on China's Shanghai Tower 1,900ft (580 metres) above ground in the country's commercial hub Shanghai.
The skyscraper overtook Taiwan's 509-metre-tall Taipei 101 building to become Asia's tallest tower.
It is the second tallest building in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai which stands at 830 metres.
According to AFP, when the Shanghai Tower is finally finished, it will reach over 630 metres tall.
Following a "topping out" ceremony, Xia Jun, of Gensler, the American firm which designed the tower, said: "It's a landmark and it will change the skyline of Shanghai.
The structure stands alongside China's previous tallest building, the 492-metre Shanghai World Financial Center.
Shanghai Tower is expected to open next year, by which time it may have been surpassed as China's tallest building after Chinese firm Broad Group announced it plans to construct an 838-metre tower in the city of Changsha, which could be completed in April.
