Woman dragged along platform by train in Newcastle

An investigation has been launched after a woman was dragged along a platform by a train in Newcastle.

Officers from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) are looking into the incident at Newcastle Central Station, which saw train doors close on the woman's wrist, before starting to depart.

According to ITV News, the doors were closing as the passenger reached the train, so she put her arm between them, expecting them to reopen.

However, the doors continued to close, trapping her wrist and forcing her to jog alongside the train for around the length of a coach, reports the BBC.

Fellow passengers who noticed what was happening pulled the emergency door release, which automatically applies the brakes.

The conductor failed to see the stuck passenger due to a bend in the platform.

The incident occurred on a Transpennine Express train on 5 June, but was not reported to the RAIB until 3 July.

The woman was left shaken but suffered only minor injuries.
