A woman has died after falling from a rollercoaster in Texas.

The accident happened on Friday at the Six Flags Over Texas theme park.

According to The Guardian, the woman was riding the Texas Giant rollercoaster, billed the tallest steel-hybrid coaster in the world.

The Daily Telegraph reports that park spokesman Sharon Parker confirmed the woman had died on the ride.

Witness Carmen Brown said: "She goes up like this. Then when it drops to come down, that's when it (the safety bar) released and she just tumbled."

Six Flags expressed sadness over the death and said it was temporarily closing the section of the park where the accident took place.

The Texas Giant reaches 14 storeys high and has a drop of 79 degrees.
