A man has been fined £600 for assaulting a police officer before exposing himself on a beach in Belfast.

According to UTV News, Robert John Stewart winded an officer before running onto a beach at Belfast Lough and dropping his shorts twice.

The 31-year-old, from Newtonabbey, Co Antrim, admitted indecent behaviour and assault on police at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the prosecutor said Stewart shoved a policeman in the chest, adding: "He then ran in the direction of the beach area, turned round to police, pulled down his shorts and exposed his genitals."

Following sentencing, Stewart apologised for his behaviour and said: "I was stoned out of my head."
