'Unruly' passengers forces Canada to London flight to divert

An passenger who became unruly on an Air Canada flight heading for London Heathrow forced the plane to divert to Halifax.

Stanislav Kalmin, 51, from Vancouver, reportedly began throwing water on passengers and crew, as well as muttering threats towards crew, acting 'strangely', and ignoring requests to calm down, reports CBC News.

The Boeing 777 aircraft left Vancouver Airport on Monday night, and had to land at Halifax around six hours into the flight.

It remained at the Stanfield International Airport in Halifax for around two hours.

Kalmin was taken into custody and transferred to hospital for assessment.

According to the Toronto Sun, he has now been charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft, assault with a weapon and mischief under the Aeronautics Act.
