Crazy Red Bull soapbox race rolls into London
Seventy colourful homemade soapbox racers (homemade go-karts) arrived at Alexandra palace on Sunday where they were tasked with impressing the judges and the crowds as they hurtled down the steep hill course.
Competitors reached speeds of up to 40mph in the likes of a giant slice of cake, a rugby scrum, a burrito and even a bottle of HP sauce complete with drivers dressed as sausages.
Those involved were judged on both the artistic merits of their creations as well as their performance on the gruelling course that included harsh jumps and extreme handling exercises.
Judging proceedings were champion mountain bike racer Gee Atherton and professional street trials rider Danny MacAskill who seemed impressed by this year's highly creative turnout.
Dubbed the 'world's wackiest road race', the event has been staged over 40 times worldwide since 2000 and was returning to London after a nine year absence.
