China suffers the world's worst flight delays

Air passengers in China suffer the world's most disrupted travel, a new report has revealed.

Beijing International Airport is the world's most delayed airport, with just 18.3 per cent of commercial passenger flights leaving on schedule, the report claims.

According to AFP, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport reported the second worst departure record with 23.5 per cent leaving on time.

Istanbul was named the third worst performer.

The report found that about 42 per cent of flights from Beijing and 40 per cent of flights from Shanghai suffered delays of 45 minutes or longer.

US-based air travel information service FlightStats carried out the study and found that among airlines, mainland Chinese carriers made up eight of the 10 worst performing airlines.
