British father dies in Magaluf hotel balcony fall

A British father-of-three has died after falling from a hotel balcony during a holiday in Magaluf, Spain.

Craig Knapp, 31, from Dundee, Scotland, was on a family holiday in the popular tourist spot on the island of Majorca.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed the incident, and told the BBC: "We were notified about the death of a British national in Majorca on 8 July.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family."

Mr Knapp had three children, Craig Jnr, 12, Rhys, six, and Dara, four. Talking to the Daily Mail, his wife Lisa said: "He was a much-loved man, a devoted husband and a really good dad. He will be missed by many."

The exact circumstances of Mr Knapp's death are unknown, but he fell from the 10th floor of his hotel balcony.

Friends and family have paid tribute to the HGV driver on social networking sites. According to the Express, his younger sister Emma Louise Ure said: "Today I remember the heartache I felt when you went to Heaven. But the memories of our time shared on this earth will never be forgotten."

Back in June, British holidaymaker Sean Kelly was left in hospital after a 70ft balcony fall while on holiday in Magaluf.

In the same month, British teen, Liam Davies, died on holiday in Bulgaria after falling from his hotel balcony.

The number of holidaymakers falling from hotel balconies is continuing to rise, and this month the Foreign and Commonwealth Office joined forces with ABTA in an awareness campaign highlighting the dangers of hotel balconies. As part of the campaign,, young people visiting resorts will be handed leaflets about previous deaths and how to stay safe on holiday.
