A mother of two apparently drowned on holiday in Ibiza after she was separated from her friend on a night out on the party island.

Janine Mallett, 31, was found floating in the sea on Saturday morning at about 11am off s'Arenal beach in San Antonio.

The Daily Mail reports that police immediately launched an investigation but ruled out "foul play" and say her death may have been an accident. They added that the young mother could have suffered a heart attack and drowned after going for a swim.

A post mortem is being carried out.

A source told the Daily Star: "There were no obvious signs of violence on her body.

"As far as I know it's a mystery as to how Janine's body came to be in the sea.

"The friend is obviously devastated."

Janine's female friend told police that she lost sight of her while they were out partying.

A source told the Daily Mail: "They went out and got separated from each other and the friend went back to the hotel alone just before 1am on Saturday morning with no idea where Janine was.

"They hadn't spoken about going swimming as far as I know so it's a mystery as to how Janine's body came to be in the sea."

Janine's husband, Iain Mallett, 30, is being comforted by the couple's family and friends in their home town of Stockton-on-Tees.

She leaves behind two children, a boy, three, and a girl, aged six.
