A British man on honeymoon in Mexico has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident in Cancun.

55-year-old Ray Cottam from West Yorkshire had only been married a week and was enjoying the holiday of a lifetime with his new wife when the tragedy occurred.

Tributes have been paid to the Wakefield dad, who worked for Fox's Biscuits in Batley.

"He was a diamond - one a million. He would do anything for anyone", friend Jane Barnes told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "Their wedding reception was lovely. He and Karen were made for each other... It's such a shock and we still can't believe it."

Speaking on Sky News a spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed the death of a British national in Cancun, Mexico.

Mrs Cottam has returned to Middlestown and is being comforted by family.

The news comes just days after a 16 year old Canadian high school student died kayaking in Cancun.
