A former commercial pilot who deliberately disabled the passenger airbag and unclipped his wife's seatbelt moments before ploughing into a tree has been sentenced to at least 24 years in jail.

Iain Lawrence, 53, deliberately deactivated Sally Lawrence's airbag and removed her seatbelt before orchestrating a high-speed crash because he could not cope with the break-up of their 12-year marriage.
