Woman plunges to her death from cliff on Isle of Skye

A 48-year-old woman has died after falling 100ft from a cliff on the Isle of Skye.

The Independent reports that the accident happened at about 4pm on Saturday. The woman was walking with her husband at Neist Point, a popular tourist destination which is famous for its rock formations, when she fell over the edge.

The woman's husband raised the alarm and she was taken to Broadford hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The Scotsman reports that the Stornoway Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, along with the Dunegan Coastguard Team, recovered the woman's body from the cliffs.

Neist is the most westerly point on Skye, giving excellent views of Moonen Bay, Waterstein Head and the Western Isles.

The rock formations are similar to those at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland - it is said that the causeway extends under the sea between Northern Ireland and the Isle of Skye.
