World's longest cable bridge is completed in China

Construction of the world's longest multi-pylon cable-stayed bridge has just been completed. It stretches 6.2miles (10 kilometres) over the Hangzhou Bay, in Shaoxing, China.

The Jiaxing-Shaoxing Sea Bridge took seven years to build, and is supported by two cable towers which reach 745ft in the air.

The high-speed bridge is designed for solely vehicles travelling exclusively above 60mph. Cars with a maximum speed below 45mph, pedestrians, cyclists and motorbikes cannot use it.

The cables are attached to towers which support the bridge's deck.

China now has four bridges in the top 10 of largest cable-stayed bridges.
