Ray Winstone is reportedly so terrified of wild animals "eating his family", he's put a ban on them from going on safari holidays.

Daughter Jaime recently joined the hit show Mad Dogs, and was keen to join her new cast mates on a safari trip.

But, she said, dad didn't approve.

According to the Express, she explained: "My dad has this nightmare that haunts him: he watches as his family are eaten by lions. Seriously, it's very real to him and he forbids any Winstone to go on safari or be near any dangerous animals."

And, Contact Music reports, she added: "My dad doesn't mind gambling but he reckons lions are a bad bet. If he tells me I'm not to go near lions I've got to listen to that, haven't I?"

His fears are not totally unfounded. Back in January, a tourist who got out of her jeep on a safari holiday to get a photo close to two white rhinos was gored in the back by one of the animals - just moments after the pic was taken. She suffered a collapsed lung and several broken ribs.

Last November, a tourist was treated in hospital for broken ribs and a broken ankle after being charged by a rhino during a walking safari in the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

And in April, a Chinese tourist was killed by a hippo at a hotel in Kenya's Great Rift Valley.

But, incidents such as these are few and far between, and should not put people off the experience of a lifetime.
