Man dies after falling from Knavesmire grandstand at York racecourse

A 21-year-old man has died after falling from the grandstand at York racecourse.

The accident happened at the Knavesmire Stand at about 5.30pm yesterday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bradford Telegraph & Argus reports that police are treating the man's death as a tragic accident.

Inspector Charlotte Bloxham of York Safer Neighbourhood Team told the newspaper: "Although we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances and are treating the death as a tragic accident. I am appealing to anyone who was in the Knavesmire Stand at the time to contact the police."

The accident is believed to have happened after the last race had finished.

A statement released by York Racecourse said: "The thoughts and sympathies of all at York Racecourse to out to family and friends."
