A new interactive website from the European Environment Agency allows holidaymakers to find the cleanest bathing beaches in Europe.
Top of the list come Cyprus and Slovenia: both countries have 100 per cent of their beaches have clean water, according to the site.
To get their findings, scientists examined samples of water over several months in 2012, looking for evidence of pollution.
The worst countries were Belgium, with 12 per cent substandard swimming areas, and The Netherlands, with seven per cent.
