Alton Towers delays launch of world's biggest rollercoaster

Updated

The formal launch of Alton Towers new £15 million roller coaster, the Smiler, has been postponed after "teething problems".

Guests were left stranded midair on the 14-loop ride while previewing it last weekend. and the theme park owners have decided to postpone its official opening, which was due to be today (May 23).

Alton Towers claims that the Smiler has more gut-wrenching twists, turns, tumbles and drops along its one kilometre of track than any other roller coaster in the world - so it's every thrill seekers dream come true.

A new date for the opening has not been set.
