A 400lb tiger has had to go under the knife - to get an enormous hairball removed from his stomach.

The 18-year-old, called Ty, from the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation centre in Seminole, was taken to the BluePearl vet group in Tampa Bay, Florida, where he had the four-pound fur ball removed from his belly.

The founder of the wildlife centre, Vernon Yates, had become concerned about Ty after he had refused food for around two weeks.

Dr. Don Woodman, who owns Animal Hospital Northwood, told News 13: "This tiger specifically is a very, very, nice, very, very, sweet tiger. Which is not usually what people think of with tigers but this individual is a very, very, nice cat. So, I really hope that we can make him feel better."

According to the Daily Mail, vets found the hairball using a scope with a camera.

Vernon, who called Ty his "biggest baby", told News 13: "I'm very thankful that we found what it is. That it's not some tumour, cancerous. Because he'll recover from this and I can't thank the surgeon and doctors from BluePearl that worked on him enough."

Dr Brian Luria, BluePearl Internal Medicine Specialist said the tiger would soon be "feeling like a million bucks".

We're sure after a cat nap or two, he'll be feeling a lot better.
