Is this the end of free bank accounts?

EU proposals aimed at making it easier for consumers to compare bank account fees could backfire by prompting British banks to charge for services that are currently free, critics have warned.

Services that could be affected include cash machine withdrawals, which are generally free in this country - as long as you go to a bank or city centre machine.
