British teacher dies in 50ft cliff fall in South Korea

A British teacher has been killed in a rock climbing accident in South Korea.

Kevin Andresen, 30, from Blaina, near Newport, Gwent, fell 50ft from a coastal path on the island of Jangbong off the west coast on 4 May.

He had been teaching English in Seoul at the time of the accident, and had been in South Korea for around 18 months.

According to The Sun, devastated family and friends managed to raise £5,000 in two days to pay for his cremation service in South Korea and the cost of having his ashes sent back home.

His mother, Gaynor, said: "The support I have had has been superb.

"People have been so very kind doing this for me. It really is unbelievable."

The Daily Mail reports that friends have been leaving condolence messages on Facebook. School friend, Lloyd Hughes, said: "He was incredibly outgoing, friendly and funny.

"Travelling was a passion of his and he had been all over the US and Canada, Europe and China before he went to Korea.

"He really found his passion teaching the children in Korea and he absolutely loved the place.

"He was a genuine, nice fellow. Bringing him back to the UK has been the main thing for us."

Mr Andresen's girlfriend, Rachel Law, was in India when the accident happened, but has since flown home to Wales.
