Thief targets Majorca hotel filled with police officers

A thief found himself in hot water when he broke into a Majorca hotel room - only to find that the sleeping occupants were three British policemen.

Mohammed Boujida hadn't realised that the hotel he'd targeted was hosting numerous police officers who were taking part in an international football tournament.

The Daily Mail reports that the event, which is now in its second year, attracts more than 1,000 officers from 28 countries, including Italy, the US and Britain.

Boujida forced open the hotel window before climbing in and rifling through the belongings of the three men, who work for the British Transport Police.

A struggle ensured, during which Boujida fainted, and he was then handed over to Spanish police. He later pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and was sentenced to eight months in prison.
