A British man has died after falling from a balcony in Dubai just nine weeks after his wedding day.

Elwood Mcllwraith, 29, from Kingston-Upon-Hull, East Yorkshire, married his partner Susie on 21 February and had been living and working in the Arab Emirates for several years, reports ITV News.

He fell from the 42-storey Laguna Tower in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers district in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mcllwraith was a former Royal Navy sailor, and had worked as a personal trainer at the Smart Fitness gym for two years.

Dubai police are investigating his death, although it is not yet clear exactly how he came to fall.

One colleague spoke to the Daily Mail and said: "We can only think this has been a tragic accident. There is no other reason for it.

"He was deliriously happy in his work and with his wife."

And, in a statement, the company said: 'On Saturday, we lost a very special member of the Smart Fitness family.

"He brought tremendous energy and warmth to the gym and his genuine kindness made everyone feel comfortable irrespective of their fitness level.

"It's so hard for us to imagine the gym and Smart camps without his smile, encouragement and dodgy banter."

Friends and family have left messages of condolence online. One wrote on Facebook: "My thoughts go out to his family and wife through this sad time.

"RIP my friend, you will be sorely missed."

Mr Mcllwraith is the third Briton to fall to death in Dubai in recent months.

In April, a British air stewardess who worked for Emirates fell to her death from a Dubai skyscraper.

Evelyn Clarke, 28, died from multiple injuries after falling from a tower block window following a night out with friends.

And, in February, a British bride died after falling from a hotel window on her honeymoon in Dubai.

Abbie Emmett, 27, reportedly fell out of the window of the hotel where she was staying with her new husband, Sean Emmett, a MotoGP racer, just days after marrying in Cape Town.
