It's time to get the bank holiday barbecue ready, because forecasters expect tomorrow to be the hottest day of the year, with southern areas enjoying temperatures of up to 24C.

Although the weekend got off to a damp start yesterday, the Weather Channel's Leon Brown told AOL Travel that the sun will come out in many areas today, with warm and sunny weather for many areas tomorrow.

He said: "Sunday looks like a cracking day with mostly clear skies and sunshine across England and Wales. Afternoon temperatures will reach 19 to 21C, but 22C is possible in parts of East Anglia. It will still be mostly cloudy over Scotland with the risk of rain over the SW Highlands, but drier and brighter in eastern Scotland. Temperatures could reach 17 or 18C in Aberdeenshire, to the east of the Highlands."

He continues: "On Monday the south looks like again enjoying a warm and sunny day with temperatures of 20 to 22C across the Midlands and South East. London may be the hot spot, reaching 23C. There will be a little more cloud in the far south west in Cornwall and West Devon, and at times over western Wales and northern England, with the risk of a light shower. In Scotland the best weather may be the far north, with a lot more cloud across southern Scotland."

According to Metro, UK temperatures could be better than those in some parts of France and Italy, and could top the 23C that was reported on April 25 - the hottest day of the year so far.
