A TV producer who works with Bear Grylls is recovering after being bitten on the foot by one of the world's deadliest snakes.

Steve Rankin, who worked with Grylls on Man Vs Wild, was in Costa Rica scouting for locations for the upcoming Discovery show, Naked And Afraid, when he was bitten.

According to the Daily Mail, he said: "As I was traversing through some deep jungle, I was bitten on the foot by a Fer-de-Lance.

"It's one of the deadliest snakes in the world and the fangs went right through my boot."

Rankin is now making a recovery in hospital, but the wound is extremely gruesome.

He was rushed by his co-workers to a hospital in San Jose, where he received anti venom medications, but his wound became infected.

He told TMZ: "About five days later the flesh in my foot had started to rot."

He was rushed back to LA, where he underwent skin graft surgery, and is now said to be recovering well.

Bear Grylls caused a furore on Twitter earlier in the week, when he uploaded a gory pic of the wound, which showed Rankin's skin had rotted away leaving the bones in his foot clear to see.

Rankin managed to post his own pic on Twitter and, referring to Bear's horrifying image, wrote: "Thanks Bear for your good wishes. Slightly less gruesome pic post surgery."

It still looks pretty gruesome to us...
