New Citroen C4 Picasso unveiled

The MPV: once nothing more than a box to put your kids in, is now enjoying something of a makeover, with manufacturers finally keying into the idea that parents haven't given up wanting style and driving enjoyment from a car simply because they've had children. Citroen is the latest carmaker to throw its hat in the ring with this, the new C4 Picasso.

Wearing the marque's freshly restyled chevron badge, which is merged seamlessly with slimline LED daytime running lights, Citroen has attempted to give the new C4 Picasso a futuristic air - not an easy task given the car's practical, boxy dimensions. There are more LEDs at the back, too, with the rear lights arranged to give a 3D effect.
The on-trend detailing is backed up by a taughter, more aggressive stance than the outgoing model. This is down to the Picasso's new EMP2 platform, which allows for shorter overhangs and a lower floor.

The new platform also brings about a 140kg weight saving - handy for those looking to maximise fuel economy. In fact, the new C4 Picasso is the first car in its class to be offered with an engine that emits less than 100g/km of CO2. Opt for the BlueHDi 150 model and not only will you get an impressive 74mpg, you'll pay no road tax at all.

Importantly, Citroen has put a lot of emphasis on the interior, aiming to maximise onboard technology and passenger comfort. The 'loft style' cabin has a light and airy ambience thanks to the panoramic windscreen and a large glass roof. Optional front massage seats will also take your mind of the kids screaming in the back, if only for a few minutes.

Fitted as standard is a 7" touchpad, which controls in-car functions from the air conditioning to the radio and telephone. This is coupled to a 12" HD widescreen, which can be configured to show information from the sat-nav, amongst other things. Drivers can even upload their own photos, to add a personal touch to the interior.

More useful technology comes in the form of keyless entry, a motorised rear hatch and a reversing camera. Also available is a 360-degree parking aid, which uses four hidden cameras to give a top-down view of the car, leaving no excuse for shoddy parking.

Seven colours are offered: Shark Grey, Aluminium, Hickory Brown, Obsidian Black, Ruby Red, Teles Blue and Kyanos Blue. A range of alloy wheels will be available in sizes 16-18".

The Citroen C4 Picasso will reach UK showrooms this summer. Full price and specification details have yet to be confirmed.
