Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 22-year-old was hit by a train at Guildford railway station in Surrey.

Police said the victim, from Woking, Surrey, was with a friend at Guildford station at 23.40 on Saturday when there was a confrontation.

The BBC reports that the man was fatally injured by a train and South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two 19-year-old men from Guildford were arrested at the scene and a third man, from Cranleigh, handed himself into a police station in Guildford after.

According to Sky News, the victim has not been named but his family has been notified by police.

Detective Chief Inspector Iain Miller, senior investigating officer, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the man's family at this acutely difficult time for them.

"They're trying to come to terms with what has happened and at this stage, quite understandably, they have asked to be left alone to grieve.

"The station was cordoned off until the early hours of Sunday morning while forensic officers conducted a thorough search and my team of detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death, which we are currently treating as suspicious.

He added: "Three men were arrested in connection with the incident and they remain in custody being questioned by detectives."
