A rare baby giraffe was filmed standing up for the first time in Connecticut, America.

In the video, the Rothschild giraffe was captured getting to her feet after several failed but adorable attempts.

The Huffington Post reports that the unnamed female calf was born on 22 March at the LEO Zoological Conservation Centre (LEOZCC), a preservation refuge and breeding centre for rare, threatened and endangered species.

The arrival of the adorable animal sparked interest in the rest of the giraffe herd, who eagerly gathered to greet the newcomer, LEOZCC said on its website.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the calf's six-year-old mother gave birth after a 15-month-long pregnancy.

The baby was able to stand up within half an hour of her birth so that she could start nursing.

She is the first giraffe ever to be born at LEOZCC, but more are expected later this spring.

The centre has asked the public for suggestions of names for the newborn.
