Fisherman and tourist drown on same weekend in Ireland

Two men died in separate incidents after drowning off the coast of Ireland .

Independent.ie reports that a Polish man who had been living in the country for a number of years died when he was hit by a freak wave and fell off rocks into the sea on a fishing trip with friends at Mullaghmore Head, Co Sligo.

The 55-year-old fisherman was married and had been living in Co Kildare.

According to InsideIreland.ie, the Bundoran RNLI lifeboat was called to the scene just before 10am on Monday.

The man was assisted by ambulance crew and taken to Sligo General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident happened in an area known for its freak waves and local anglers tend to avoid fishing there.

In a separate incident, a body was taken from the sea at Westport, Co Mayo.

It was that of a Scottish man who had been visiting the area for St Patrick's weekend.

The man, who had been travelling alone and was booked into a local B&B, was identified as Michael Reilly, 54, from North Ayrshire.

A Norwegian fisherman also died over the weekend when he fell in the sea at Killybegs, County Donegal on Sunday.

The Gardaí, Ireland's police force, described the death of the 41-year-old father-of-three as a tragic accident.
