A 13-year-old boy has died after drowning in a Disney resort swimming pool over the weekend.

According to KSDK.com, officials said Anthony Johnson from Missouri died on Tuesday at an Orlando hospital.

Anthony had been swimming with his family at Disney's Pop Century Resort on Sunday evening. His family lost sight of him and a cousin spotted him at the bottom of the pool after several minutes.

He was taken to an Orlando area hospital, where he later died.

In a statement, Disney officials said they were saddened by the boy's death and have reached out to his family to offer 'care and assistance.'

WPTV.com reports that lifeguards were not on duty at the time of the incident.

Firefighter William Cybulski said he gave CPR to the boy.

'You never want to see something like that especially when you're on vacation, or any child in general no matter where you are,' he said.

The incident is under investigation.

The Pop Century Resort is located in the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, near Orlando.
