Fake bomb gets past New York airport screener

An undercover inspector from the Transportation Security Administration managed to get a fake bomb past security at a busy airport in America.

Fox News reports that the inspector snuck the fake bomb stashed in his pants through two layers of security screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

According to the New York Post, he brought the mock bomb through the magnetometer, which failed to detect the device.

US congressman Peter King called for a 'top-to-bottom' security review of TSA operations at the airport in wake of the report.

Sky News reports that Newark airport, which is home to 1,400 screeners and supervisors, has a history of security mishaps.

Last year 52 screeners were sacked for security lapses and thefts.

The TSA would not confirm the report but says it regularly puts screeners through the most difficult training scenarios.

The agency says its goal is to ensure officers can detect the hardest-to-find devices.
