Seven 'rude' French tourists arrested for not paying game park fee in Zimbabwe
Police briefly detained a group of seven "extremely rude" French tourists after they refused to pay the £10 entry fee to a game park in Victoria Falls, Africa.
The group, aged between 55 and 66, then tried to sneak into the Zambezi National Park via an illegal entry.
According to news.com.au, Jairos Chiona, police chief superintendant in Victoria Falls, told AFP: "They were extremely rude and they even tried to drive off from the police station, but we managed to arrest them.
"They refused to pay to watch game at Zambezi National Park."
Mr Chiona said the group had used an illegal cross-border entry from Botswana to access the park, and were apprehended by game rangers.
He added that they were released after paying a £13 fine.
Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Parks are situated on the western tip of Zimbabwe. The Falls, known by the local Kololo tribe as Mosi oa Tunya - The Smoke That Thunders - is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls on Earth.
Zambezi National Park together with Victoria Falls National Park cover an area of 56,000 hectares. The northern border of the park is formed by the great Zambezi River, which also forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia for much of its length.
Holidaymakers can see a wide variety of larger mammals within the Zambezi National Park, including The Big Five: elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and white rhinoceros.
Zambezi National Park has two main game-viewing sections: the Zambezi River Game Drive, with an extensive network of roads along the river accessed through the main gate of the Park, and the 25-kilometre Chamabondo Game Drive in the southern part of the park, which begins about five kilometres outside of Victoria Falls town.
