Police in Australia are investigating the death of a woman on a cruise ship moored in Darwin Harbour.

The 24-year-old cruise ship employee was found by staff when she did not report for the regular morning drill.

news.com.au reports that shocked passengers on the Seven Seas Voyager said the woman was a singer in the cruise ship's resident band.

Northern Territory police would not comment on the cause of death.

Commander Richard Bryson, of the Crime and Specialist Support Command, said: "A crime scene was established as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continues."

abc.net.au reports that the woman was from the United States

Passenger Nancy Flager told the news website: "It's sort of a mystery because she was so young and appeared to be in very good health and spirits just the night before."

The cruise ship was due to leave for Bali on Monday morning.
