Video: Man captures lightning strike on camera in 'near death' experience
A man has captured the moment a lightning strike hits the ground in Western Australia - in what was described as a 'near death' experience.
The footage was uploaded to YouTube by Jeff Miles, and the clip is even called "Near Death Lightning Strike".
It is another example of the extreme weather Australia has been experiencing since the start of 2013.
Queensland has been rocked by severe flooding as a result of the torrential rains caused by ex-tropical cyclone Oswald.
A dramatic river rescue actually took place in Queensland last week (24 January) after a teenage boy was left clinging to a tree in the Rockhampton suburb of Frenchville.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology reports that 161 millimetres (6.33 inches) of rain fell on Rockhampton in 24 hours, making it the wettest January day since 1939.
The country has also had to deal with fierce wildfires in New South Wales, which were exacerbated by soaring temperatures that hit 54C in some areas.
