Seven spring movies to see
With the awards ceremonies coming thick and fast at this time of year, there is no doubt a dazzling array of movies on your cinema wishlist. But if you're looking for further inspiration, here are a seven spring releases you won't want to miss.

Hitchcock - 31 January
National treasures Sir Anthony Hopkins and Dame Helen Mirren star in this story of the horror flick director, his long-suffering wife (Mirren) his struggle to make the now iconic Psycho - a film that pushed the boundaries of the genre in its day. Scarlett Johannson takes the role of leading lady Janet Leigh, iconic shower scene and all, but it's Mirren who steals the show.

This is 40 - 14 February
Judd Apatow brings Knocked Up supporting characters Debbie and Pete (Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd) into the spotlight as they approach the big 4-0. Despite their seemingly perfect life in an affluent LA suburb with two kids in tow, the years of marriage and the upcoming milestone birthday have taken their toll. Fans of Apatow's previous work will know what to expect, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of laughs for married couples everywhere.
A Good Day To Die Hard - 14 February
Ageing action star Bruce Willis returns as John McClane, the bane of terrorists everywhere, for the fifth in the Die Hard series. This time he's in Russia looking to help out his apparently wayward son Jack, inadvertently walking straight into a secret mission to prevent a nuclear weapons heist. Expect plenty of father son banter and fast-paced action, as the pair team up to take on the Russian underworld. Yippee-ki-yay.
Cloud Atlas - 22 February
If sprawling epics are your thing, then Cloud Atlas will tick all the boxes. Adapted from David Mitchell's novel, the movie comprises six interrelated stories, beginning in the 19th century and ending in a post-apocalyptic future, that explore how even the smallest of actions impacts on the lives of those in the future. The film features a star-studded cast that includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Doona Bae. Those who have read the book will be intrigued to find out how the Wachowskis, in collaboration with Tom Tykwer, fare in translating this epic onto the big screen.
Broken City - 1 March
Political scandal are the order of the day as disgraced cop turned PI Mark Wahlberg is hired to investigate the Mayor of New York City's wife (Catherine Zeta Jones). In keeping tabs on a woman suspected of cheating, Wahlberg stumbles across some disturbing evidence, and faces a powerful opponent in the Mayor himself, played by Russell Crowe. A slick noir flick for fans of crime thrillers.
Oz: The Great and Powerful - 8 March
Long before Dorothy set foot on the yellow brick road, the Wizard of Oz faced trials of his own - that's the setting for Disney's fantastical prequel to the much-loved L Frank Baum classic. Small-time circus magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is himself whisked away to Land of Oz where he must prove his worth to three witches (played by Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams). Directed by Sam Raimi, expect stunning visual effects and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Iron Man 3 - 3 May
The first of this year's superhero movies sees Tony Stark don the red and gold suit once again, this time in a bid to outwit relentless villain The Mandarin. As things get personal, Stark is left to survive on his wits, and according to the official website, discovers the answer to the question, 'does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man'. Robert Downey Jr returns in the starring role, as do Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, with added star turns by Guy Pearce and Sir Ben Kingsley.
