Bad weather leaves 120 Ryanair passengers stranded in wrong city

It seems the UK is not the only place where appalling weather conditions are creating travel chaos.

Over 120 Ryanair passengers flying from Oporto airport in Portugal to the northern French city of Lille were left stranded in Nantes, on France's west coast, after Lille's airport was closed due to bad weather.

According to MSN, one passenger, Ricardo Ribeiro, told AFP they were left on the aircraft at Nantes for four hours waiting for information about how they would reach their final destination.

French website lesoir.be also reported that Mr Ribeiro said: "We're 123 people, including children. There's no one from Ryanair at the airport and the person responsible for the airport has no solution.

"There are people who don't have money to get to Lille and the Ryanair plane has taken off for Oporto again."

Remi Motte, a technical director at Nantes-Atlantique, told AFP the airports in both Lille and in Beauvais, outside of Paris, had been closed due to the weather on Sunday, resulting in a diversion of several flights to Nantes.

He added that "several hundred" passengers were affected by the schedule change, with most of them being transported to their original destination by bus.

For some reason that solution had not been possible for the 123 people flying from Oporto to Lille.

According to ABC News, those passengers were eventually driven to a nearby hotel, and taken to Lille by bus on Monday morning.
