Star of Flight Denzel Washington was a real-life hero when a flight attendant became inconsolable during bad turbulence.

The actor, who is up for an Oscar for his role in the film about the investigation of a pilot's emergency landing which saves everyone on board, had to calm the air stewardess down when she became upset during the private flight.

Denzel told Cover Media: 'It was a private plane and I had to calm the flight attendant down! Really.'

According to news.com.au, the woman was left embarrassed for receiving his help.

The actor added: 'She was like, "Wow you're not supposed to be helping me!" She was a little upset.'

Denzel said he was no longer afraid of flying after filming scenes in which the plane goes down after an in-flight malfunction.

He said: 'I have been on planes that have been struck by lightning and have hit some pretty rough air.

'The time to worry about flying is when you're on the ground. When you're in the air, there's nothing you can do!'
