Bambi on ice! Rescue of deer stranded on lake caught on camera

There's nothing like a heart-warming story for a Friday afternoon...

A mule deer became stranded after wandering on to a frozen lake in Colorado - and its rescue was caught on camera.

The animal is seen desperately trying to clamber to its feet, but unfortunately just can't manage it.

Luckily, a member from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife was on-hand to attach a lasso to its antlers and drag it to safety across the lake.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill said: "We got the rope off and the animal took off running, and so no broken bones, we don't think there were any serious injuries to the animal.

"We do think there may be some cuts from the ice... it did look like it had a slight injury to its ankle that it was licking, and some sort of cut on its rear. But it did take off like a shot, so my officers, who are also biologists, think that this animal's in really good shape.

"Hopefully it won't come anywhere near ice again."
