FTSE 100 shares slipped on Monday, with the index down 27 points to 5,897. The biggest riser on the last day of 2012 was Kingfisher, up +0.78% while Melrose Industries saw the biggest drop, down -3.54%.

Overnight, Asian shares are up sharply after the US House of Representatives 'fiscal cliff' deal gets agreed: Hong Kong's Hang Seng index climbs a substantial +2.1%.
