A Spanish holidaymaker who was hit by a bus in central London has died.

The woman, 48, was with her husband, daughter, 18, and son, 11, when three of them were hit by a bus on Sunday afternoon at Charing Cross Road after "looking the wrong way".

While the husband was unhurt, the woman and her children were taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, where the woman died on Monday.

Witnesses have described the accident as "absolutely awful". Tracy After, from Kent, was in a taxi near the scene of the accident with her husband and two friends.

She told the Evening Standard: "We looked over and all I saw bodies going in the air. I saw a man run back and roll a woman over. I think that could have been her husband. There was sheer terror on his face.

"It was absolutely awful. I saw a child lying there as well. When I found out the woman had died I just cried and cried."

According to the BBC, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said the driver of the route 29 bus remained at the scene and spoke with officers. He has not been arrested.

The woman's daughter remains in a serious but stable condition, while her son is in a stable condition.
