A pilot caught a thief stealing from the driveway of his own home as he flew his plane above it.

David Zehtner was flying home to Florida from North Carolina in his Cessna 182 when he saw a truck on his drive.

According to The Ledger, he lowered his altitude to nearly 300ft to get a closer look and saw the man attaching the truck to his trailer.

He told NBC News the man was looking in windows and trying doors, before he hitched the red tow trailer to his silver truck and took off.

Zehtner followed the truck and called the Glades County Sheriff's Office from the air.

Glades officers contacted the Lee County Sheriff's Office, which caught up with the truck as it headed into Charlotte County.

According to NY Daily News, a loaded rifle and bullets were also found in his truck.

Gary Haines, 59, from Virginia, was arrested and charged with theft.
