A dog is missing after it was swept out to sea with its owner while enjoying a walk on a beach in Dorset.

The Jack Russell, called Millie, and its female owner were carried out to sea by a huge wave while walking along Charmouth beach on Thursday afternoon.

According to the BBC, Portland Coastguard received a host of calls from worried members of public, and a rescue helicopter and RNLI lifeboat were scrambled.

However, the lady managed to make it back to shore on her own, where, according to ITV News, she was checked over by the helicopter winchman, who is also a paramedic.

Her dog is still missing.
