Britons 'to splash out on holidays'
On average, the length of a main holiday next year will increase 0.6 days to 9.66 days, a TravelSupermarket poll of more than 5,000 holidaymakers showed.
Spending on trips will rise, on average, from £1,092 in 2012 to £1,107 in 2013, with this figure including travel, accommodation and spending money.
Spain and its islands are the main destinations to which Britons will head in 2013, followed by the US.
As many as 35% intend to take a beach holiday next year, slightly up on the 2012 number, while the number taking city breaks (29%) is slightly down.
Cruise trip travel is likely to grow, as will all-inclusive breaks, while visits to family will dip a bit. August is likely to be the most popular month for self-catering holidays - a category of break that is expected to be slightly less popular next year than in 2012.
Of those planning breaks, 55% hope to go abroad, with 15% as yet undecided.
TravelSupermarket spokesman Bob Atkinson said: "Although many of us still like to take one main holiday, along with some additional short breaks, in 2013 we'll see holidaymakers slightly increasing the number of days they spend away as well as upping their holiday budgets.
"However, controlling the budget will still be a key issue. The fact that people are still opting for self-catering accommodation and staying fairly close to home for their holidays, in destinations like Spain, shows how people are tightly managing their holiday spend and trying to make their money go as far as possible."
