Passengers on a subway train in Berlin were amazed - and amused - when a young blonde woman boarded the train with her Shetland pony and calmly took a seat.

The cute pony then stood quietly while the woman held it on a short leash, as other passengers looked on - and many photographed and filmed the unusual commuter.

A video of the horse's train trip has already become an internet sensation, attracting thousands of viewers.

The woman and her pony were travelling on Berlin's S-Bahn, which is an overground rail network similar to London's tube.

While the other passengers found it funny, an S-Bahn spokesman certainly wasn't amused.

The Daily Mail reports that spokesman Burkhard Ahlert said: "One may smile but according to our transport regulations, this is clearly not allowed.

"This clearly violates our conditions of carriage.

"A horse can be dangerous. What if it escapes? The S-Bahn is no place for such animals.

"We have informed the police already."

According to the Daily Mail, the pony is believed to belong to a circus troupe that collects donations.
