W Montreal

What's to love?
Luxury at it's coolest in the heart of Montreal.

First impressions
Set in Montreal's historic Banque du Canada building, you'd never imagine that such a traditional building would be home to the contemporary cool of the W brand. The dimly lit interior has a modern funky ambience, strewn with LED lights and modern chandeliers. The staff (mostly young and attractive) are extremely welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable, making you really buy into the hotel's motto of 'whatever, whenever'.

With four restaurants/bars open until the early hours, guests can choose to sip Champagne in W Bartini, dine in Ristorante Otto and finish up partying in Wunderbar. Sounds excessive? Well, you can work off your sins the morning after in the hotel's gym or take advantage of one of the great spa treatments.

Best rooms in the house?
The hotel has 152 rooms and suites, each with their own unique luxury feel. Most rooms come with huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the leafy Victoria Square, a super cosy goose-down bed, a huge TV and an impressive glass adorned rainforest shower. If you really want to treat yourself, there are different levels of luxury ranging from the 'Cozy' and 'Wonderful' to the 'Mega' and 'Extreme Wow'.

Top tip?
Download the W Hotel iPhone app to find out about the local area or to simply get more towels delivered to your room. We also particularly loved the PAW policy (Pets Are Welcome).

This place is perfect if you're...
...looking for a central hub to explore the real Montreal. 'Old Montreal' is lovely and is just a ten minute walk from the hotel. If you want to go out a little further, there is a metro stop nearby or simply jump on a Bixy bike (the original Boris Bike).

Where to eat/drink
The hotel's fantastic Ristorante Otto is worth a look – Chef Yves Lowe serves up Italian cuisine with an Asian twist. Concept restaurant, Brasserie T is a 10 min walk away in the city's stunning Entertainment District (we particularly recommend the scallops). Night owls should head to the Mile End District of Montreal. We were particularly impressed with the uber cool and relaxed 'Sparrow Bar' on Boulevard Saint-Laurent.

Things to do, places to see...
Montreal is a city made for exploring. As mentioned, the best way to explore the city and truly get your bearings is by Bixy bike.

Start the day off by heading to the Museum of Fine Arts, just 1km away from the hotel. The Old port is also definitely worth a look as is the Notre Dame Basilica.

Foodies should head to Jean-Talon market – taste local chocolates, cheeses, calamari and chips, not forgetting Quebec's delicacy Poutine - be sure to arrive hungry!

After lunch, head to Mount Royal, pretty much all downtown hills lead up here and the views of the city are spectacular.
