Spanish police are hunting for a British sex offender, living in Spain, in connection with the attempted abduction of a 12 year-old girl in the resort of Velez-Malaga, in the Malaga area.

The Mirror reports that convicted sex offender Robert Bill, 58, was jailed for six years in the UK in 2008 after trying to abduct a five year-old girl. He was convicted of attempted abduction, indecent assault and possessing indecent images of children. He told Spanish authorities that he was moving to the Malaga area in August and they were supposed to be monitoring him.

The attempted abduction took place in broad daylight on November 19. The girl was forced into a silver-grey Peugeot 106 with a 'baby on board' sticker. She managed to escape after opening the opposite door before her abductor could drive away.

Spanish newspaper Diaro Sur named Robert Bill as the man that police are hunting in association with the incident. A spokesman for the Spanish police confirmed that the man they are looking for is British.

Spain's English new site The Olive Press reports that the attempted abduction happened near the town's courthouse at 6.10pm. Police say that a man was seen standing next to a car with the door open and forcing the girl inside.
