Earlier this morning, a PIA flight travelling to London from Karachi was forced to make an emergency landing soon after take-off when the plane's engine caught fire.

The Express Tribute reports that PIA flight 787 took off from Karachi at 11.46am this morning but, soon after, the pilot contacted the control tower to inform them of the fire.

The pilot was then told to make a few circuits of Karachi's Jinnah International Airport to reduce the quantity of fuel, before landing safely and without incident.

No one was hurt but the plane was deemed unfit to fly to London, so passengers were moved onto another aircraft.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson Pervaiz George told Dawn.com: "PK-787 took off at 11.46 hours with 168 passengers and crew on board. The pilot soon felt some technical fault in his plane's engine. The plane returned here at 12.08 hours in a normal and safe manner."
