Most travellers who use budget airlines have perfected the art of packing all their belongings into their hand luggage to avoid extra baggage fees.

But this weekend, easyJet has advised that anyone flying to or from Madrid should carry hand luggage only. Those who don't risk two-hour delays or may even find that their hold luggage doesn't make it on to their flight as a result of a strike of ground handling agents.

The Telegraph reports that the budget airline advised passengers travelling to or from the Spanish airport between Thursday, November 8 and Sunday, November, 11 to mimimise their baggage.

The easyJet website explains that, so far, baggage disruption has been minimal but there are concerns that increased numbers of weekend passengers could cause problems.

As a result, passengers are advised to use two smaller bags that can be taken into the cabin. One can be stored under the seat in front and a second, smaller bag can be placed in the overhead lockers.

Easyjet have also warned customers of a general strike across Europe on Wednesday, November 14. The strike will affect different countries at different times during the day. Spain and the Canary Islands will operate a 24 hour strike from 00.01 to 23.59 and Greece will strike between 12.00 and 15.00.

As a result, some flights will be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled and recommend that customers continue to check the easyJet website for updated information.
